CADagency is delighted to be working with a specialist engineering consultancy supporting major energy and nuclear infrastructure projects. Our client is based in Bristol and provides electrical design and engineering support for complex power generation projects. Due to continued project workload and expansion of the design team, they are looking to recruit a Junior CAD Engineer / BIM Technician on a permanent basis.
As a Junior CAD Engineer / BIM Technician, you will be responsible for producing coordinated 3D design layouts for electrical cable containment systems within a highly regulated engineering environment. You will work from defined cable routes and approved containment components, developing accurate layouts using straight sections, bends, couplers and associated support systems.
You will work within a multidisciplinary 3D model alongside civil, mechanical, piping and HVAC disciplines, ensuring that cable tray routes are practical, coordinated and free from clashes. You will be responsible for developing initial layouts through to detailed designs, checking interfaces with surrounding services and raising queries where design constraints or clashes are identified.
The role will involve working with AVEVA E3D, which is used as the project BIM and 3D design platform. Previous AVEVA E3D or PDMS experience would be beneficial, although our client is also interested in junior candidates with transferable experience using Revit within building services, MEP or similar coordinated BIM environments.
You will regularly update project trackers, report progress to the design team and follow internal quality control procedures. You will be expected to check your own work carefully and ensure designs comply with project requirements and agreed engineering processes.
You will work closely with engineering teams in the UK and France, as well as other consultants and contractors involved in the delivery of the electrical installation. Occasional travel to France may be required. Training will be provided on project-specific software, processes and nuclear engineering requirements.
Key skills and experience include:
- Experience using Revit, AVEVA E3D, PDMS or similar 3D CAD/BIM software
- Experience within building services, MEP, electrical, mechanical, structural or industrial engineering
- Understanding of 3D modelling, BIM coordination or clash detection
- Cable containment, cable routing or electrical services experience would be beneficial
- Ability to produce accurate technical drawings and coordinated models
- Good attention to detail and willingness to follow defined engineering procedures
- Comfortable working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team
- Engineering qualification or around two years’ relevant CAD or design experience would be suitable
The position is full time, permanent and office based in Bristol, with an ideal start date of October 2026.
Benefits include:
- 33 days’ annual leave including bank holidays
- Holiday entitlement increasing with service
- Private health insurance
- Life assurance
- Pension scheme with employer contribution
- Share incentive scheme
- Internal training and professional development
- Opportunities to develop specialist experience within the nuclear and energy sector
