2025 CAD Salary Survey Results

As we celebrate another year of CADagency’s dedication to understanding the needs of CAD professionals, our latest survey, based on responses from over 3,200 CAD staff across the UK, reveals fascinating insights into the evolving priorities and challenges faced by the industry. Here’s a deep dive into how things are shifting in 2025, shaped by the cost-of-living crisis, the post-pandemic work landscape, and broader economic trends.

Average Salaries

CAD professionals in the South West have seen the largest salary growth over the past five years, with average salaries increasing by over 20%.

This year, the average salary for CAD professionals has seen a modest rise of 4.6%, increasing from £37,889 in 2024 to £39,633 in 2025. While this is a slower growth compared to last year’s record 7.2%, it still reflects resilience in the sector amid inflationary pressures and economic uncertainty. Over the past five years, salaries have risen by a significant 18%, showcasing long-term growth despite the challenges of COVID-19 and its aftermath.

Pay Rises, Are Employers Keeping Up?

Professionals in London were the most likely to report receiving a pay rise, while those in the North East were the least likely, reflecting regional economic disparities.

Only 68% of respondents reported receiving a significant pay rise this year, down from last year’s 72%. This trend may reflect tightening budgets as businesses adapt to the cost-of-living crisis and the rise in operational costs. However, those who did receive raises saw an average increase of 6.5%, suggesting that companies are strategically rewarding top talent in key roles.

Changing Jobs

CAD professionals in the Midlands are the most likely to be considering a job change, with 48% actively exploring new opportunities.

The proportion of CAD professionals considering a job move has climbed to 43%, up slightly from 41% last year. This aligns with the broader trend of increased job mobility in a competitive market. Notably, salary remains the leading factor for job changes, with 42% citing it as their top motivator. However, flexible working arrangements (28%) and opportunities for career progression (22%) are becoming increasingly critical in attracting and retaining talent.

Five-Year Reflection

The North West has seen the largest decline in CAD professionals over the past five years, with a 7% drop in candidates living in the region.

Over the last five years, the CAD sector has seen significant shifts:

  • Remote Work: The pandemic catalysed a permanent change in working preferences, with 68% of professionals now seeking hybrid roles.
  • Geographical Shifts: The Midlands continues to gain prominence, with a 5% increase in candidates over five years, while London and the South East maintain their dominance, housing 39% of the workforce.
  • Software Trends: AutoCAD remains dominant, but Revit’s growth in construction and the gradual pivot from SolidWorks to Autodesk Inventor are reshaping the industry’s technological backbone.

Job Security

Professionals in Scotland report the highest levels of job security, with 79% feeling secure in their roles.

72% of CAD professionals report feeling secure in their current roles, up from 69% in 2024. This marks a steady increase over five years as businesses stabilise post-pandemic and construction projects resume across the UK. However, job security remains lower among junior staff, highlighting the need for companies to focus on retention strategies for early-career professionals.

Workplace Stress:

CAD professionals in London report the highest levels of workplace stress, with 28% feeling under significant pressure to meet deadlines.

Workplace stress remains a key issue, with 20% of CAD staff reporting high-pressure environments, a slight increase from last year. Deadlines remain the primary driver of stress, but the rise in hybrid work has provided some relief, as 67% of professionals now enjoy greater work-life balance compared to pre-pandemic times.

Career Progression: A Positive Outlook

Professionals in the South East are the most optimistic about career progression, with 70% feeling their roles offer clear pathways for growth.

Encouragingly, 63% of CAD professionals feel there are opportunities for career progression within their current roles, up from 60% last year. This aligns with the increasing emphasis on training and mentorship programs within the industry. However, 15% still report seeing no opportunities for advancement, an area where companies can focus their efforts to retain talent.

Demographics: A Young and Growing Workforce

The Midlands has the youngest workforce, with 55% of CAD professionals under the age of 35.

The number of CAD professionals aged 25 to 34 continues to grow, accounting for 42% of the workforce. This aligns with the increasing appeal of the CAD sector to recent graduates and apprentices. Over five years, this demographic has seen a 9% rise, signaling a strong pipeline of talent entering the industry.
