CADagency is delighted to be working with a specialist precision engineering company, based in Cannock, producing bespoke tooling for thread rolling and related applications. With a reputation for quality and innovation, they design and manufacture tooling that supports major sectors including automotive, aerospace and general engineering.
We are helping them recruit a Tooling CAD Technician to join their design team. You will be working closely with the Managing Director and an external trainer to develop your skills with the CAM software, but the core of the role is producing accurate 2D AutoCAD drawings which are then processed into SmartCAM to create manufacturing programs for the shop floor team. The current designer has developed custom macros and streamlined processes, and you’ll have the support of an external trainer who provides specialist SmartCAM knowledge.
Day-to-day, you’ll be creating new and adapting existing designs for bespoke tooling orders, creating accurate drawings with a strong focus on cylindrical components, radii and thread profiles. You’ll liaise with production staff to ensure programs run smoothly and contribute to ongoing improvements in workflow and automation.
Key Requirements
- Background in mechanical or precision engineering
- Strong CAD skills, ideally with AutoCAD 2D
- Understanding of CAM processes, with any SmartCAM experience an advantage
- Knowledge of cylindrical components, tooling or thread geometry
- Comfortable working in a bespoke engineering environment
