CADagency is delighted to be working with a long-established UK furniture manufacturer supplying kitchen, bedroom and associated furniture into a wide range of sectors including high-rise residential, build-to-rent, public sector housing, student accommodation and trade merchants. With decades of manufacturing experience and a strong reputation for quality, our client is looking to recruit a SolidWorks Furniture Design Engineer to join their product design team.
As a SolidWorks Furniture Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, prototyping, testing and launch of new furniture products across the sectors the business serves. This will be a varied role combining product design, technical detailing and project coordination, with a strong focus on creating practical, manufacturable furniture solutions for a volume manufacturing environment.
You will work on projects from quotation and concept stage through to final manufacture and delivery, producing accurate technical manufacturing drawings and supporting the wider manufacturing and data teams with assembly drawings and initial Bills of Materials. The role will also involve working closely with purchasing and procurement, liaising with external suppliers, identifying new product opportunities and helping to ensure the efficient introduction of new products into the business.
Alongside the day-to-day design work, you will also be involved in industry and competitor research, as well as keeping up to date with relevant technological and manufacturing developments. You will need to be comfortable speaking with clients, understanding their requirements and helping translate these into commercially viable and practical furniture designs.
You should have:
- A degree in Product Design and or proven industry experience within the furniture manufacturing sector
- Strong SolidWorks experience or experience with similar 3D design software
- A strong furniture design background
- A good technical understanding of production and manufacturing processes
- Experience producing accurate technical and manufacturing drawings
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office
- SketchUp or Revit experience would be advantageous but is not essential
Our client is looking for someone who can learn quickly, work on their own initiative and take a proactive approach to problem solving. You should be confident communicating with customers, suppliers and internal teams, with the willingness to pick up the phone and keep projects moving. A flexible attitude and willingness to learn will be important in this role.
A full UK driving licence would be beneficial, although it is not essential, as occasional off-site travel may be required.
