Location continues to influence salary levels within the fit out sector.

London and the South East remain the highest paying regions overall, particularly for senior designers and design management roles. However, regional hubs such as the Midlands and North West continue to close the gap as national contractors deliver projects across multiple locations.

For many fit out designers, salary differences between regions are now less pronounced at junior and intermediate level, with experience and delivery responsibility having a greater impact on pay than location alone.

Based on fit out and workplace respondents in the CADagency 2026 Salary Survey, average UK salaries sit as follows:

  • Junior Fit Out CAD Technicians: £29,400

  • Intermediate Fit Out Designers: £36,800

  • Senior Fit Out Designers: £45,200

  • Fit Out Design Managers: £54,900

Salary progression within fit out is closely linked to delivery responsibility and project complexity. Designers with strong technical detailing skills and experience working directly with site teams consistently sit above the average for their level.

AutoCAD vs Revit usage in fit out

AutoCAD remains the dominant platform across the fit out sector, particularly within contractor-led environments.

However, Revit usage has increased steadily in workplace and commercial office fit out roles.

Revit users are more commonly found in workplace strategy, commercial office and hybrid fit out roles, while AutoCAD-only users tend to sit within fast-turnaround retail and refurbishment projects.

Fit out market trends

The fit out market continues to be driven by pace, flexibility and client expectation.

Demand remains strong for designers who can work accurately under tight deadlines and respond quickly to design changes. This is particularly evident in commercial office, retail rollout and hospitality projects.

Hybrid working is less common than in other CAD sectors due to the site-led nature of fit out delivery. However, some flexibility is increasingly offered at intermediate and senior level, particularly where roles involve coordination rather than constant site presence.

There is also growing demand for designers who understand bespoke joinery, high-spec finishes and buildability, rather than purely conceptual design.
