CADagency is delighted to be working with an established engineering business based in Exeter that designs and manufactures specialist electromechanical systems for use within the entertainment and live events sector. Due to continued growth and a number of new project wins, our client is looking to recruit a SolidWorks Designer to support its engineering and project delivery teams.
As a SolidWorks Designer, you will be responsible for producing accurate 3D models and detailed 2D manufacturing drawings for bespoke engineering projects. You will work closely with the engineering team to turn concepts, sketches and existing models into clear, manufacturable drawings suitable for fabrication, assembly and client coordination.
You will use SolidWorks extensively to create and update 3D models, assemblies and manufacturing drawings, with particular focus on sheet metal and weldment-based components. You will also use AutoCAD to interpret and work from client drawings, venue plans and architectural layouts.
The role will involve producing drawing packs, BOMs, technical illustrations and supporting engineering documentation. You will maintain drawing revisions throughout each project and ensure technical information remains accurate and up to date as designs develop.
You will work closely with internal engineers, project teams and external suppliers, helping to ensure drawings reflect practical manufacturing, fabrication and assembly requirements. Projects can move quickly and often have fixed deadlines, so you will need to be comfortable managing several priorities and producing accurate work at pace.
There will also be opportunities to support practical engineering activities including prototype builds, test fits and design validation. You will help ensure drawings and technical documentation meet the required internal quality, safety and document control standards.
You should have:
- At least 2 years’ professional SolidWorks experience within an engineering, design or manufacturing environment
- Experience producing detailed 2D manufacturing and fabrication drawings
- Good knowledge of SolidWorks 3D modelling, with sheet metal and weldments experience particularly useful
- AutoCAD experience and the ability to interpret client, architectural or layout drawings
- Experience producing drawing packs, BOMs and technical documentation
- A practical understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes
- Good communication skills and the ability to work closely with engineers, suppliers and project teams
- The ability to manage multiple projects and work to tight deadlines
Experience with BIM workflows, document management systems, drawing registers or bespoke one-off engineering projects would be beneficial but is not essential.
The role is based at our client’s offices in Exeter and is offered on a permanent, full-time basis, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
