CADagency is delighted to be working with a growing and design-led manufacturing company specialising in metal ceiling solutions for the construction sector. With decades of experience delivering bespoke architectural systems, the company is now looking to recruit a Technical Designer to support their expanding workload. This is a hybrid position that will transition to a Reading-based office in the near future and is ideal for someone within 20 miles of Reading.
This newly created role will see you developing accurate, buildable designs and supporting documentation for bespoke and systemised metal ceiling solutions. You’ll play a critical part in translating architectural concepts into manufacturable technical drawings, supporting both pre and post-contract activities.
You’ll be producing coordinated 2D and 3D drawings, preparing submittals, liaising with clients and contractors, attending site visits and collaborating closely with internal project, sales and manufacturing teams to ensure all technical requirements are met. The role is highly collaborative and includes contributing to new product development and improving standard details.
- Produce coordinated 2D and 3D technical drawings for ceiling layouts, interfaces and fixing details
- Interpret architectural and structural drawings and develop them into accurate, buildable solutions
- Liaise with internal teams, clients and contractors to review proposals, resolve design queries and achieve approvals
- Attend site surveys and coordination meetings to verify conditions and resolve technical challenges
- Support the preparation of technical documentation including datasheets, installation guides and O&M content
- Contribute to new product development, testing, detailing standards and NBS specification content
Key Requirements
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in ceiling system design or similar architectural detailing
- Strong 2D CAD skills using AutoCAD; familiarity with Revit, Inventor or SketchUp desirable
- Knowledge of metal fabrication, architectural fixings, and construction interfaces
- Strong coordination ability across architectural, structural and MEP disciplines
- Experience working across multiple RIBA stages including technical submittals and design approvals
- Clear communication skills, both written and verbal, with confidence in client-facing environments
- Familiarity with UK construction regulations, drawing protocols and document control
- Driving licence and willingness to travel for meetings and site visits
Salary: £40,000 – £48,000
Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:30 to 17:00
