Job Location: St Albans
Minimum Salary: £43000
Maximum Salary: £56000
Software: Inventor
County: Hertfordshire
Job Type: Full Time
CADagency Reference: DT631
Job Category: Joinery

CADagency is delighted to be working with a small, family run joinery business based in St Albans. The company delivers high end residential joinery projects, largely within the London market, with a strong focus on bespoke kitchens and fitted cabinetry. The team is close knit, with in-house manufacturing and CNC capability, meaning design and production work closely together on a daily basis.

The business is bringing its CAD and design function in house and is looking for an experienced 3D joinery designer to take ownership of the role. You will be working independently, managing projects from initial brief through to manufacture. The position sits at the centre of the business and involves regular interaction with sales, project management, installers and the workshop team.

You will work closely with client briefs to develop bespoke 3D design solutions and support pricing and programme timescales. Once designs are approved, you will produce accurate technical drawings suitable for manufacture and CNC production. A practical approach is essential, with designs needing to align closely with workshop processes and materials. The company uses Autodesk Inventor and is open to candidates with either Inventor or SolidWorks experience. An add-on for Inventor is used to support nesting and CAM workflows, and training can be provided where required.

For this role, you will need strong practical joinery knowledge and a clear understanding of how bespoke furniture and cabinetry is manufactured. The position suits someone comfortable working autonomously who enjoys being involved in the full lifecycle of a project, from concept through to production.

  • At least three years’ experience in joinery or furniture design
  • Strong 3D CAD experience using Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks
  • Practical knowledge of joinery manufacturing and CNC processes
  • Experience designing kitchens, wardrobes, cabinetry and bespoke furniture
  • A strong understanding of materials, construction methods and technical detailing
  • Confidence working independently while collaborating closely with workshop and client-facing teams

Due to the bespoke nature of the projects, a high level of attention to detail and a solid grounding in furniture and cabinetry construction is essential. This is a senior, hands on role for a joinery designer looking to take ownership of design within a growing business.
