Building Services Recruitment

CADagency specialises in recruiting CAD and BIM professionals for the Building Services and MEP sector. We support consultancies, contractors and multidisciplinary engineering firms across the UK, supplying technically capable designers who understand the demands of live building services projects.

Our experience covers mechanical, electrical and public health design roles, with a particular focus on CAD and BIM-led environments. We work with both smaller design consultancies and larger national businesses, tailoring our approach to suit project workload, team structure and software requirements.

By taking time to understand your business and the technical detail of the role, we ensure candidates are aligned not only on skill set, but also on delivery expectations and working style.

Roles We Recruit For Within Building Services

We regularly recruit across a wide range of building services design roles, including:

  • Mechanical Design Engineers
Experienced in HVAC, pipework, plant layouts and energy-efficient system design.

  • Electrical Design Engineers
Skilled in lighting, power, containment and coordination within complex building environments.

  • M&E CAD Technicians
Detail-focused professionals supporting accurate drawing production and coordination.

  • M&E BIM Technicians and Coordinators
Designers responsible for Revit models, clash detection and multidisciplinary coordination.

Many of the candidates we place work across multiple software platforms, most commonly AutoCAD, Revit MEP and Navisworks, with BIM-led workflows now standard across much of the sector.

Building Services Market Trends

Building services CAD and BIM roles continue to evolve.

Revit usage has increased steadily over the past five years and now features in a significant proportion of building services roles. Designers with strong BIM coordination skills remain in high demand, particularly those who can bridge the gap between technical delivery and project coordination.

Hybrid working is now common across the sector, although fully remote roles remain limited. Businesses offering flexibility alongside clear progression and training pathways are consistently more successful in attracting and retaining experienced designers.

2026 Building Services Salary Insight

Based on Building Services respondents in the CADagency 2026 Employment Survey, average UK salaries currently sit as follows:

  • Junior Building Services CAD / BIM Designers: £30,600

  • Intermediate CAD / BIM Designers: £37,900

  • Senior CAD / BIM Designers: £45,800

  • Design Managers / BIM Coordinators: £55,400

Intermediate roles remain the strongest point of demand nationally, driven by workload, coordination requirements and a shortage of designers who can operate independently within BIM environments.

London and the South East continue to command the highest salaries overall, particularly at senior and management level. However, the Midlands and North West have seen steady progression over the past five years as larger projects and coordinated design work become more regionally distributed.

Revit vs non-Revit salaries

Revit capability continues to carry a clear salary premium within building services.

  • Designers using Revit MEP reported an average salary of £43,900

  • Designers not using Revit reported an average salary of £36,200

As BIM workflows have become embedded rather than specialist, candidates without Revit exposure increasingly sit in more limited or legacy CAD environments, particularly at junior level.
