Job description

CADagency is delighted to be working with a design and manufacturing company based in Shrewsbury. Our client serves the education and library sectors by designing and project managing engaging space with bespoke, purpose built furniture.

Due to on-going high demand, we are assisting them in recruiting for a Product Designer with experience using SolidWorks. You will be reporting to the Head of Design  and be responsible for the design of product, primarily technical furniture. The primary material is engineered timber board, but steel is also used in some products structurally.

On a daily basis you will be using SolidWorks and SWOOD for CAM software to interface with the CNCs. Composer is also used to develop packaging and assembly instructions.

The role will involve developing an understanding of existing products and aiding in the design of future products.

  • To take ownership of the CAD aspect of allocated projects ensuring drawings/information are provided to deadlines set
  • Prepare and issue 3D detailed drawings, utilising SolidWorks and SWOOD
  • Use Composer alongside SolidWorks to develop manufacturing and assembly instructions
  • Be capable of creating a 3D drawing from an isometric, hand-drawn sketch, and then turn this into a 3D layout drawing
  • Provide design calculations
  • Work closely with the production team to ensure components are as per specification and the drawings
  • Ensure that drawings, notes and records are stored so that they are readily available
  • Generate Bills of Materials and Cutting Lists
  • Generate CNC programmes as required
  • Maintain drawing control procedures
  • Ensure that products are designed in consideration of manual handling requirements
