Job description

CADagency is delighted to be working with a manufacturing and fabrication company based in Birmingham. Our client specialises in lighting, giftware, engineering products and fully bespoke items. They mainly manufacture in steel, copper, aluminium and brass. Due to ongoing high demand, we are assisting them in recruiting for a SolidWorks Designer with previous experience in the design for manufacturing sector. Our client boasts, in house manufacturing facilities from machining and laser cutting of components to finishing, wiring and assembly.

For this role, you will become an integral part of a small team of product engineers in their Birmingham offices. You will be required to have an eye for detail and the ability to manage your time effectively to meet deadlines. This role will encompass the whole process of product development, from CAD modelling and producing documentation for the factory to follow for production. This will also include packaging and creating end user documentation.

You will start by taking concept briefs from clients, sales teams and the Design Manager. You will model machined parts, components, and sheet metal fabrications in SolidWorks and create assemblies and configurations. This will include dimensioned part drawings for manufacture and the production of detailed exploded views and BOMs to guide the assembly team.

For creating user instructions and diagrams you will be working with SolidWorks Composer software and Adobe Suite. You will also work closely with suppliers to source components and ensure cost effectiveness.
