Job description

CADagency is delighted to be working with a leader in waterproofing and roofing systems, working closely with clients in various sectors including housing, education and commercial. They specialise in the end-to-end approach from initial consultations and design, right through to final installation, after sales care and maintenance.

Their is a current requirement for a Design Manager in the Structures Department to be based in their offices in Daventry. For this role you will take the lead role in coordinating with client’s the design of Structural products offer into construction projects.

As the Design Manager, you will follow, implement and develop appropriate processes to ensure that all strands for the operational delivery of the design service are covered and ensure mechanisms are in place for monitoring and managing direct reports and external consultants.

You will be responsible for developing and nurturing the day to day relationships with all key stakeholders including contractors, building consultants and internal and external colleagues to ensure that an excellent design service is provided.

Finally, as the Design Manager, you will contribute to the business objective to become outstanding in our disciplines of roof-top developments and flat to pitched conversions.

Key Accountabilities of Design Manager

  • To respond to client requests by maintaining regular and effective liaison with consultants and all relevant businesses working on projects in design and on site to meet demand
  • To take the lead on all issues relating to design office workflows. Collaboratively manage and monitor performance against agreed indicators and to take responsibility for resolving issues and problems affecting delivery of design, targets and performance requirements
  • To take the lead for performance of the design office with regard to design of our product offer and control external supply partner input to the same. Work with colleagues to ensure that improvement, value for money and performance are sustained
  • To monitor and co-ordinate the design office output ensuring all areas of statutory compliance are adhered to. To ensure that the design office is performing and delivering schemes to agreed timescale, budget and to the agreed client specifications
  • Ensure that information gathered is robust and in a format that can be used to deliver client and business needs
  • To ensure that the design office service delivery is effectively monitored and managed through the development and maintenance of robust, secure management systems and processes which allow for corrective or preventative actions to be taken as soon as possible in order to minimise any financial or reputation risks
  • To identify, evaluate and assess any financial, product, design, service quality or reputational risks, and ensure they are considered and administered in a timely and accurate manner, and escalated as necessary
  • To implement robust processes for ensuring all areas of statutory compliance are being met and any notices received are dealt with
  • To liaise with internal teams, ensuring that operational plans, work programmes and targets are set, implemented and regularly reviewed
  • To ensure that customers and suppliers views are routinely taken into account in relation to the delivery and development of the design office service
  • To ensure that customer satisfaction with the design office meets and exceeds the performance targets that are set and agreed
  • To ensure that complaints, when they do arise, are recorded and dealt with as efficiently and effectively as possible
  • To utilise and contribute to the development of IT systems and make recommendations where appropriate for improved ways of working
  • To keep abreast of developments in local, regional and national policy and industry good practise
  • To attend and provide briefings, consultation events or other meetings, often outside office hours

Experience

  • Construction design, Co-ordination of building design on multiple projects
  • Experience of dealing with clients
  • Working to tight deadlines
  • Experience of undertaking diagnosis of obstacles and barriers across teams and contract issues; and co-ordinating actions in response
  • Experience of implementing and maintaining quality systems
  • Experience of managing and administrating partnering contracts
  • Previous experience as a Design Manager

Knowledge

  • Full understanding roles and responsibilities of construction design
  • CDM
  • Building regulations, Knowledge of the regulatory framework
  • High level knowledge and experience of:
    • Management best practice and techniques
    • Building practice, building law and emerging trends
    • Understanding of issues around the delivery of maintenance and/or other contracts in an urban environment

Other Requirements

This role requires the post holder to be an Essential Car User, hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle
