Job description

CADagency is delighted to be working with an well established manufacturing company specialising in commercial and residential piping, drainage and ventilation. Due to the growth in the Modular Buildings sector the company is looking to expand their services to accommodate contractors and architects within the off-site build sector. With manufacturing sites all over the UK, the company is now looking for a Design Manager to head up the Design Team in the process of developing their products for modular buildings.. Reporting to the Managing Director you will be required to have experience in drainage and MEP. Any experience in the Off-Site sector using Modern Construction Methods and a good understanding of the Design & Build process would be highly advantageous.

As the Design Manager will also take the lead on Mechanical and Electrical design projects into the modular build industry using relevant software. You will be working alongside the wider Offsite Solutions support team and liaise with the client and nominated contractors to formulate the most cost-effective method to achieve the required design outcomes.

You will be the main point of contact for the projects scope and creation ensuring that the Project is managed until completion, facilitated by the wider project support team until all relevant details are accurately logged onto the IFS system.

In this Design Manager role you will generally be accountable for;

  • Fully understanding client requirements / output specs
  • Ensuring design, procurement and construction information complies with project documentation
  • Creating the design output using relevant software tools and verifying its compliance with Client’s specifications and contract proposal submissions to gain the most cost-effective method
  • Be the main point of contact for the Project, dealing with operational requirements, site meetings, technical drawings and any revisions that may be required
  • Assessing other potential project developments, including site visits and design user group involvement with clients to ensure the product and design is suitable for modular build requirements
  • Being a pro-active member of the Offsite Solutions management team, to influence the development of the offsite proposition and enable delivery of the digital aspects
  • Prepare monthly design reports for board reporting
  • Working alongside colleagues during bidding and pre-construction process
  • Managing to agreed deadlines
  • Liaising between the Client, their Design Consultants and colleagues on design matters
  • Liaising with operational colleagues for the ongoing development of our product, design packages and procurement strategies
  • Ensure the design process recognises compliancy issues, current legislation, standards and codes of practice

Qualifications & Training

  • High level of experience with AutoCAD and Revit software is essential
  • Ability to prepare basic programmes to control design specifications and design inputs/outputs
  • Relevant experience in previous M&E activities with an accredited qualification in either mechanical or construction biased disciplines preferred
  • Accredited by the CIOB or similar industry desirable
  • Strong use of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Valid driving licence

Experience

  • Previous experience as a Design Manager
  • Experience in designing plans for residential work in a contractor or developer environment
  • Some knowledge of modern methods of construction and modular systems is desirable
  • Some knowledge of plastic piping, climate and/or water management systems and products essential
