Job description

CADagency is delighted to be working with a manufacturing company based in High Peak who specialise in custom made, hand built staircases, Balconies, Gates & Railings. Working with cast iron, wood and other materials there is a current requirement for a Junior SolidWorks Designer ideally with some experience in the manufacturing sector.

For this role as a Junior SolidWorks Designer you will be working alongside the sales team to create 3D plans as well as technical drawings for the on site manufacturing team.

This role would be suitable for a university or college graduate looking for an entry role into industry

On a daily basis you will carry out the following tasks

  • Produce 3D CAD drawings in SolidWorks to support the sales team in securing an order
  • Produce detailed 3D plan, elevation and fixing drawings for clients to sign off
  • Produce fabrication drawings, Bills of Quantities and Cutting Lists for the manufacturing team
  • Order profiled material from the profilers
  • Help develop new manufacturing concepts to make the production process more efficient
  • Communicate with clients and make amendments to drawings as required
  • Work alongside the project management team to ensure that the continuous flow of work through to the manufacturing teams to improve efficiencies
  • Document agreed manufacturing principles and develop SolidWorks templates
  • Assist in the development of new patterns and designs
  • Spend time in the workshop understanding the manufacturing process for different products

Proposed Skills required

  • Experience in SolidWorks is essential
  • Have an understanding of construction and manufacturing methods preferred
  • Have an understanding of the qualities of metals and other fabrication materials
  • Ability to learn and adjust quickly to specific fabrication/manufacturing principles
  • Ability to visualise in 3 dimensions
  • Ability to convert verbal and written information into two dimensional drawings which will then be used during manufacture — accuracy and attention to detail are essential
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
  • Good communication, numeracy and IT skills are essential
  • Ability to work alone or with a team
  • Ability to problem solve and help find solutions
